What is the most important thing when learning Japanese?
結局は、「続けられる人が勝つ」だと思います。

日本のことわざで、「継続は力なり」と言います。
There is a Japanese proverb, “Keizoku wa chikara nari” (“Diligence pays off”).
全てのことはそうですよね？
It’s the same with anything, isn’t it?
多くの人が三日で飽きます。
Many people get sick of it in three days.
それを日本のことわざで、「三日坊主」です。
There is a Japanese proverb, “Mikka bozu” (“Three days a monk”, or, people give up after three days).
日本語勉強をいくらやっても楽しくて仕方ない、というあなたはラッキーです。
If you enjoy studying Japanese after many days, you are a lucky person!
他の日本語のことわざに、「好きこそものの上手なり」というものもあります。
There is another Japanese proverb, “Suki koso mono no jouzu nari” (“If you like doing it, you will be good at it”).
ほとんどの人はやる気をずっとキープするのが難しい。
It’s difficult for most people to stay motivated.
そういう人には目的が必要です。
Those people need goals.
「可愛い日本人の女の子と仲良くなりたい、かっこいい日本人男子と仲良くなりたい。」
“I want to be friends with cute Japanese girls”, or, “I want to be friends with good-looking Japanese boys.”
それも立派なモチベーションです。
I think that is good motivation too.
日本に住みたい、日本文学を日本語で読みたい、日本の文化が好き、日本語ができてすごい、と言われたい。
“I want to live in Japan”, “I want to read Japanese literature in Japanese”, “I like Japanese culture”, or “I want to ‘wow’ people by speaking Japanese”.
モチベーションは何でもいいです。
Any motivation works.
習慣化も必要です。
It’s also important to make studying Japanese a habit.
「目的もモチベーションもよく分からないけど、なんとなーく癖でだらだらと日本語を勉強する。」
“I don’t really know what my goals or motivations are, but I somehow just continue learning Japanese”.
それもいいと思います！

〜なければいけません・〜なきゃいけません(casual)
Must
There are many variations depend on level of politeness.
1. 〜なければいけません (formal)
2. 〜なきゃいけません (causal + formal)
3. 〜ないと（いけない）casual
4. 〜なきゃ（いけない）casual
なければ part means “If you do not do”
いけません roughly means “you cannot go”
So it literally means “You cannot go not doing” – double negative
How to change the verb
Change it into 1) short negative, then, 2) drop い and add “ければいけません“.
(Short form negative) – drop い + ければいけません
I won’t tell you to go back to the pages that explain how to form short form negative.

U sounds changes into A sound.

Now you know how to form “Negative form”.
Let’s change these “dictionary verbs”into “Short/negative” , drop い and finally form なければいけません (must)
(Dictionary) – (short/negative) – drop “い” – add “ければいけません”.
食べるー食べないー食べな ければいけません (must eat it)
言うー言わない ー言わな ければいけません (must say it)
するーしない ーしな ければいけません (must do it)
くるーこない ー こな ければいけません (must come)

Making guess
When we are making a guess or a prediction でしょう follows verbs.
Short form + でしょう
Ex.)
It will probably rain tomorrow.
あした、雨が降る でしょう。
(negative)
It will probably not rain tomorrow.
あした、雨が降らない でしょう。
How about “adjectives” and “noun”?
いadjective
Just add でしょう
Ex.)
I guess it’s cold.
寒いー寒い でしょう
I guess it’s scary.
怖いー怖い でしょう
なadjective
Drop な and add でしょう
I guess xx is beautiful.
きれいなーきれい でしょう
I guess xx likes it.
好きなー好き でしょう
Noun
Just add でしょう
Ex.)
I guess xx is Japanese.

Quotation
Short form + だろう
For the quotation, “I think -” you should use だろう, NOT でしょう
I think he probably likes Japan.
