Happy New Year!

今日は、Transitive Pairs について勉強します。
We are learning about transitive Pairs.

Transitive verbs　他動詞 – Verbs describe situations in which human beings act on things.
Ex) 開けるードアを開ける
Someone opens door.

Intransitive verbs 自動詞- Opposite of Transitive verbs. Human beings don’t act on things, but, it makes action on its own.
Ex) 開くードアが開く
Door opeens on its own (because of strong wind, or maybe because of ghost!)

Please note that particle for transitive verbs are を、for Intransitive verbs, が

でも、ほとんどの動詞は、このTransitivity pairs はないので、安心してください。
Most verbs don’t have this transitivity pairs, so don’t worry!

まず、よく使われるTransitivity pairs を覚えましょう。

 

開ける open something 開く something opens
閉める close something 閉まる something closes
入れるput something in 入る something goes inside
出す take something out 出る something goes out
つける turn something on つく something goes on
消す turn something off 消える something goes off
Extinguish something
壊す break something 壊れる something breaks
汚す make something dirty 汚れる something becomes dirty

（１）開ける open something 開く something opens
Ru-verb U-verb
開けます 開きます
開けました 開きました
開けて 開いて

お化けの話をすると、Intransitive verbsがたくさん使われます！
Many intransitive verbs are used when we talk about ghost stories in Japanese.

何もしていないのに、勝手に物が動いたりするでしょう？だから、今日はお化けの話を使って練習しましょう！
It’s because things moves by itself although human beings don’t do anything. So let’s practice transitivity pairs using ghost stories!

はい、始まります！
Let’s get started!

あ、始まる、もそうですね。始める、始まる。

その家にはお化けがいると聞きました。
I heard that there is a ghost in the house.

私はドアを開けて中に入りました。
I opened the door and entered inside.

すると、誰もいないのに、勝手にドアが開きました。
Then, although nobody was there, the door opened.

（２）閉める close something 閉まる something closes

誰もいないのに、ドアが閉まりました。
Nobody was there, though, the door closed.

（３）入れるput something in 入る something goes inside

私は紅茶を入れました。
I put tea in a cup.

すると、砂糖が勝手に入りました。
Then, sugar went inside by itself.

（４）出す take something out 出る something goes out

私は、冷蔵庫からミルクを出しました。
I got milk from a refrigerator.

すると、何もしていないのに、レモンが冷蔵庫から出ました。
Then, I did not do anything, though, lemon went out.

つける turn something on つく something goes on

その後、キッチンの電気をつけましたが、何もしていないのにリビングルームの電気がつきました.
Then, I turned on the light at the kitchen, though, the light at the living room turned on.,

消す turn something off 消える something goes off
Extinguish something

そして、私はリビングルームの電気を消さなかったのに、勝手に消えました
Then, I did not turn off the light at the living room, however, it turned off.

壊す break something 壊れる something breaks

そして、ティーカップが勝手に壊れました。
Then, the tea cup broke by itself.

汚す make something dirty 汚れる something becomes dirty

そして、壁が血のような赤い色に汚れました。
Then, the wall became dirty with something red like blood,

落とす drop something 落ちる something drops

私は持っていた携帯を落としました。
I dropped my cell phone that I was holding.

すると、飾っていた絵が落ちました。
Then, the drawing on the wall dropped.

沸かす boil water 湧く water boils

私はお湯を沸かさなかったのに、勝手にお湯が沸きました。
Although I did bot bill water, water boiled by itself

この家には絶対お化けがいる！私は走って逃げました。
I thought, “There is a ghost in this house”, then, I ran away.
